Herb Ban

Covenant,
You recently saw fit to reinstate a herb and refill ban on behalf of the
Sentinels towards all of Ashtan. And the reason? Perhaps the
Necromancers of Ashtan stalked into the forest in the dead of the night
and wiped clean all the plant life we could find? Or did Ashtan, say,
enact a law forbidding Sentinels to own shops in Ashtan, or any other
such act that singled out your guild? Nay, the reason you gave me was
merely this: an Ashtanite stole a meager amount of gold and a handful of
vials from two or three of your guildmembers.
This apparently put you into such a rage that you contacted me to
demand, in the most overbearing and arrogant manner possible, that
Ashtan enact legislation protecting non-citizens within its walls from
thievery and attacks. And if we did not do so, you would call a herb
ban. As you put it, "If you dont WANT us visiting, I can CERTAINLY
arrange it."
When I relayed your words to the Ashtanite who had committed the
thievery, he offered immediately to make amends. Your response? That you
did not want amends, you wanted our laws changed to your liking. At that
point, I told you where you could put your demands and your herb ban,
and you resorted to childishly taunting me with the usual "have fun
getting herbs" crap.
So! You now have a guild-wide herb ban on an entire city based on the
actions of one citizen who is not even a city official, and who has
offered reparations. Why? For the protection of those who might sell to
us? Certainly not, since you know very well that pre-announced visiting
merchants are given full citizen protection for the duration of their
visit.
This reeks more of your well-known personal prejudice against Ashtan
which you are determined to drag your guild into, despite the fact that
quite a few Sentinels make their home in Ashtan as well. But I guess
that doesn't matter, right.. it's where _you_ make your home that's
important, isn't it? Your pathetic attempts at coercing the hand of
Ashtan rival even that of a certain other guildmaster. Though it does
seem rather plain from the horribly coarse way you went about it that
it's not coercion you wish to achieve but an excuse to lash out at
Ashtan.
I post this not because I want to convince you to change your mind on
the herb ban, but so that Ashtanites and Sentinels alike can understand
what occured to cause you to declare the ban at all.
Regards,
Shakti Devi,
Archon of Ashtan.
