Ah, Finally, the Truth

I am certainly relieved your tone of accusation and what seemed to be an
attempt at stirring the flames of a witch hunt against me has simmered a
bit. Even Gawain, who holds no love for me, seemed a bit embarassed for
you when I approached him about your posting logs of a private social
conversation and my obviously being "suckered" into your little word game.
Now, however, it seems the truth about why you were goading me comes to
light -- you are insatiably curious about the Orphanage. I should have
guessed this from your private message to me (excuse me if I make it
public but you seem to believe everything should be public) wherein you
wanted desparately to know what really goes on at the Orphanage. Is it
just me, or are you really an old gossip in disguise, hungering to know
everything and anything in the land? Not that I fault you for it, but life,
alas, is full of disappointments, and I am afraid you will be let down to
know that the orphans currently enrolled have been placed with good families
through our adoption program. The identities of the children and the families
are kept confidential, under lock and key, and are not open to public
inspection, for the protection of all parties involved.
Now, you have asked me in the past, and others have also, and from what I
can garner is an issue that needs to be addressed, is why am I not "evil"?
Or, arguendo, if I am "evil", why don't I proudly proclaim my "evilness" and
act accordingly? This, of course, brings us to the philosophical question of
what exactly evil is. If it is someone who desires to maim, kill and destroy,
beats his or her chest proclaiming their evilness, and generally rapes,
pillages and performs other unpleasantness, then indeed it would make life
quite cozy, wouldn't it? It would divide people up into nice, tidy black and
white sides, with those standing on the line between "neutral". There is no
argument that life would be easier from the druids if they could measure the
amount of evil and good in the land by tallying up the white and black shirts
people wear. But, not only is life full of disappointments, life is also not
easy. I will just leave it at that for now, as I am sure there are a myriad
definitions of good and evil out there and perhaps others will post their own
thoughts on the subject.
