New venom pricing

This subject of the new venom pricing has been beaten near to death, but I feel compelled to add my commentary and insights on several points that have been made.

Simply put, the new pricing was implemented to benefit -all- members of the Serpent class. I doubt that this should come as a surprise to most people. Those of us who have studied long and hard to be able to milk and sell our precious venoms will now be compensated more fairly. But as Cyre has pointed out, basic economics dictates that this extra wealth will be distributed not only amongst the Serpent guilds, but from there throughout all of the land.

Simple economics also dictates that an individual should be able to sell something directly at less cost than a shopkeeper, who must inflate his prices to account for taxes and overhead. That the new law places a price floor of 2000 gold for venoms sold in shops, but allows individuals to sell for less, is only a reflection of this reality. Again, this benefits Serpents, since it gives them a pricing advantage over non-Serpent shopkeepers, but it also benefits non-Serpents, since the more attractive pricing will help to ensure an adequate supply of venoms.

As for the concept of a "black market", there is no such thing, nor has there been since the day the venom pricing treaty was ratified. By definition, if all venoms are legal, then none are illegal. What we do have is a situation where some individuals may try to undercut the market. This will not be tolerated.

Finally, a word to Zbniebniz and my brothers and sisters in all the Serpent-class guilds. Debates about these new policies should be kept within the confines of your guild, or with others of the Serpent class. By maintaining unity we, and all of Achaea, will prosper. But using this forum to publically slander each other on this sensitive subject will serve no purpose other than to sow dissension, discord, and distress, and can have no end other than to ensure our failure.

Thank you all for your time and attention.
