It should be noted that in your inflationary model, the ones who benefit are manufacturers. Be they Serpents who make venoms, Forgers who produce armor and weapons, or mages who turn out magical objects, they are none of them having to hunt the rats that are the ultimate source of all the gold they make.

But what of those who do make their meager income through the reduction of the Achean rat population? They will have to work harder. You admit as much, but say they will "for a short time, be
required to work a little harder to afford them. How short a time?

Perhaps until they are sufficiently entrenched in a guild that they may begin to turn out their own commodities? That does sound like a short time to me. Most of the guilds require considerable prowess in other skills before new members may learn forging or enchantment.
If this inflationary model continues, what is devalued is not the gold sovrign so much as the unit of work done by the ratcatchers. Is it right that new Achaeans should bear the burden for older ones getting wealthy?
