Today I killed some people for praying to Maya and damaging the Fist. They weren't happy about it.

If you pray to Maya you are harming Necromancers everywhere, and someone is going to attack you over it.

The people may not be necromancers themselves, but they may no doubt be defending the interests of their friends. If you hurt their friends then it is a lot like hurting them.

After centuries of killing people for defiling shrines, the Church cannot complain when they die for damaging Landmarks which are the equivalent to shrines now, only they can work for both sides.
