Firstly, Scheh has a good point in saying there are 9 landmarks, kinda hard to split up the middle really.

But my main point is this:
Each landmark is not simply a mark on a piece of paper, a score that means nothing but an indication of who is winning.
Each landmark isnt just a means of affecting devotion etc.

The landmarks each have a special meaning. Some may mean little or nothing to one person, while others may be very important to that same person.
My examples are the Gaian tree, and the Pillars of Maya... A foresty-type chap like myself holds the Gaian Tree in very high regard, and the fact that I'm Shallamese makes me fairly interested in keeping the Pillars of Maya clean... while something like the Sphinx means a lot less to me.

Other people will look at it differently, but my point is that if we tried to simply split them up evenly, not everyone will be happy, and if not everyone is happy, the "rules" wont be obeyed by all, and will then fail.

See, in negotiations, you might say, well... to keep the foresty folk happy we'll let the Gaian Tree stay aligned good, and choose the "bad" ones from other landmarks. But what's to say that Thoth's Bough (the bad form of the Gaian tree if youve forgotten) isnt important to another faction... maybe an order, or something? And this is not just restricted to a couple of cases.... The Sphinx could be considered very important to the Order of Loreilan perhaps (thats just a possible example, I have no idea how true it is), so.... basically I dont believe a peaceful method of conducting this can be reached.

Having said this... mayhaps some general guidelines to courtesy should be agreed upon. For example... if you see someone defiling a landmark, (or vice versa) then it should be quite acceptable for you to attack them... but it should be considered bad form to attack that person on sight for the next few years...

Yes, Calhoun (and a lot of others) sitting at a landmark and memorising the names of whoever defiles the landmark so you can attack them tomorrow is bad form, in my opinion (not saying you have done that already, but I bet you've considered it =p).

Last thing.... if you do decide to involve yourself in the landmarks thing, remember that you are choosing a side, and that once you've chosen a side, you also choosing a bunch of enemies and should keep that in mind when you decide to whine about dying later on.

I see this as more of a Deaths Heart situation than a second shrine wars, but one thing that was in general good about Deaths Heart is that mostly the fights were kept impersonal.... lets do the same here.
