It is not the Druids' place to "protect the land and all of the animals that dwell in it". That is the place of the Gods, for it is their world.

The Druids are here to maintain balance and to protect the world by making sure it does not get out of control. Population regulation is necessary in order to prevent overcrowding.

However it IS the place of the Druids to stop excessive slaughter and we will do that if we find it taking place, no matter who is the perpetrator.

I hope this clarifies matters for you. The Druids are not a bunch of hippies but are the generally good natured guardians of balance.
