Overseer Mistral,
Pursuant to grievances previously logged in the Ashtan News, the Iron Citadel News, and personally with the former Overseer of Ashtan, Napoloen, the evacuation of the Knights of the Iron Citadel from the city of Ashtan officially begins on this date.
The First Wave of our scouts are readying their gear as I write, and shall be clearing Ashtan's gates for the last time within the hour.
It is the hope of the Iron Citadel that this extreme course of action shall be beneficial to all parties. For the Knights of the Iron Citadel, the goal is the establishment of a new fortification outside of the jurisdiction of the government of Ashtan. For the government of Ashtan, we hope that she may review recent events, and from them, glean whatever lessons she deems appropriate to affect a restructuring of the city's internal affairs in such a way as to return a once-great city to her days of prosperity and affluence.
We would humbly suggest that one such note may be the recognition that a city, any city, is empowered only by the loyalty and active participation of her citizens -- of which any whole Guild is a vital percentage. Moreover, we suggest that a return to prosperity may be affected by an adoption of the position that the affairs and policies of a city are directly influenced by the affairs and policies of her guilds, but that the affairs and policies of a guild are NOT so directly linked to the personal opinions of 1-2 members of a city's government.
I have stationed rougly six regiments of Knights to remain within the Iron Citadel as a Rear Guard, under the command of Sir Khejian. In my absence, Sir Khejian (as Captain of the Rear Guard) does speak with my full authority and endorsement in any and all matters regarding the position of the Knights serving under his command, and thus, he should be your liason with the Knights of the Iron Citadel, until such as a time as the Exodus Battalion completes her mission of locating and establishing a suitable new fortification for our Knights, and the Rear Guard is called forth to join us.
Though our loyalty has been lost, myself and the Knights under my command depart with our best wishes to both the Council of Archons and the citizens of Ashtan.
May you live long, and die well.
