Magi Scapegoats.

I'd like to take the time to point out a few things that I,
as a Magi, have found to be equally irritating. First and
foremost is being blamed for every incident which occurs
throughout all of Sapience. There are at present three
guilds whose members can produce icewalls and firewalls
and several other wide ranging effects. Yet almost without
fail it is my own guild which is blamed. Additionally, with
the availability of enchanted items it may very well have
been ANYONE these days. Certainly I won't claim that the
Magi have never had young or inexperienced members or
shown poor judgement in the past. That happens to every
guild and is a natural process by which we expand our ranks
and welcome new people to the land. Very recently, one such
youngster began biting me and afflicting me with various
toxins. Since I wasn't actually in any real danger from her,
I asked what she thought she was doing and why. Her response
was that she was just "testing news skills" At this my anger
was stayed for I distinctly remembered my own early days
and the rampant experimentation going on. It proved quite
costly to cure those afflictions, but again, no harm was
done. Even when her young companion attempted to intrude
his presence within my mind. Again, I cautioned him and
politely requested that he desist. And I should point out
that I am to this day unaware as to the respective guilds
of these people. It is not always easy to tell by sight
alone whether she was a Serpentlord or Shadowsnake, or
whether he was a Kharon or Sentaari. Without having
certain knowledge of that, I would have strong
reservations about raging against their guildmaster.
While this may or may not be applicable to the specifics
of Shema's complaints, it does address what I feel has
become an overall scapegoating of my guild. I have
received numerous death threats since the rank of
Prestidigitator was bestowed upon me. People from all
corners of Sapience informing me that if the icewall
located at such and such were not removed, my head would
stand alongside it, or the heads of all Magi Neophytes.
In one specific case, were were able to determine that
they had been put up by someone deliberately attempting
to cast blame upon us. We are merely asking for the same
tolerance that other guilds receive. And kindly don't
attack our elementals, such as waterweirds.
Penned by my hand on the 21st of Valnuary, in the year 257 AF.
