Friends of Sapience,
I come before you with a grave story to tell. My youngest daughter, Temi, has left the lands due to ignorance and uncaring, and not by my hands.
Her beloved mentor (nameless here, they know who they are), ignored her beyond comprehension, always claiming to be busy when she needed them. The only ones who paid her heed to help and assist her were those in my immediate family and two others who let her follow them for exp.
While the loss of my daughter saddens me, the misuse of the mentor ability saddens me more. Mentorship is a privaledge, not a duty. Many of you are new, but i (sadly) am not. Way back when, to be a mentor you had to take a test, and Lord Deucalion administered mine. I loved my mentor, he was always there and helpful, and I wanted to pass that on to any who might need me. As I often tell my sceptical proteges, 'Credits are just an added bonus to seeing young Achaeans grow up with good training'. Many of my proteges have grown up, some are still on their way, and some have asked to be adopted into my ever-growing family.
In the 'help formentors' scroll there are several warnings, one being that your protege comes first and your life comes second. Another is that a mistreated protege CAN report their negligent mentor to the gods, and their mentor status CAN be removed. So many mentors take on proteges merely to reap credits and laugh when their level 5 protege gets squished by Belladonna. Mentorship should revert back to having to take a test for it, not automatic at a certain level and hours played. Mentorship is a privalege, not a right, and i think we owe it to the proteges and young ones of Sapience to make sure that they're taken care of by people who actually WANT to be mentors instead of just having mentorship thrust upon their shoulders.
Mentors of Sapience, i beg you, take care of those whom you call protege. re-read the help mentors file, and help formentors...you too can learn and benefit. I beg you. Don't let a wary bystander slip away just because they were standing by. Help them.
