Rapiers

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a bit of a problem with these sorts of weapons? I'm a Paladin, and seeing longswords everywhere I decided to try to be a bit more original so I went out and used 400 lessons in order to learn the rapier, only to find that even though it's a sword it's not compatible with the paladin's skillset.
The reason it's not compatible is that I cannot "dsl", or doubleslash with it. After learning it I probed it and was surprised to find that I can only "jab" with it, not slash. I never checked beforehand because I just assumed that I would be able to slash with a sword.
I always thought of a rapier as a long, thin, single edged blade used in a certain era in another world, and indeed the only time using two bladed weapons at a time was found to be at all effective and thus used seriously was when it was the rapier and the dagger. And now that I've learned the rapier, I cannot slash with it? After spending 400 lessons? Frustrating, to say the least.
I looked it up in a dictionary in the Shallam library, and rapier is very simple defined as;
ra-pi-er, n. a sword with a double-edged blade.

The fact that I got myself knocked around the mountains and forests by basilisks and lions to learn this sword from someone who also teaches the scimitar, which we can slash with, and then not to be able to slash with it, well I've allready said how annoying it is. I just please ask that the people in charge add the slash ability to these swords just like all the rest so that my lessons, gold, time and money are not wasted.

thank you very much,
Zero

(PS, please don't be offended if I ignore you, as I'm mute. Obviously asking questions outside of the newsboard is rather pointless too =)

Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Mayan, in the year 255 AF.
