the Church

The failure of any religion lies in one of two things: weakness
of belief and institutionalization. In the past, the Church
has dealt with both failings, and therein lies the reason many
succumb to the path of Evil.

Seeing the difficulty that one has, when one follows the Church,
a person dupes themself into thinking that Occultism or Evil is
the better of the two paths. As a necromancer I am very fond of
once said, "Selfishness is only one way to power. It just happens
to be the easiest."

A scholar depends on reason to define that which is correct. A
holy man or woman depends on faith to define that which is correct.
As wonderful and as beautiful as knowledge is, as wonderful and as
beautiful as art is, it cannot compare to the beauty of the faith
that truly cares for all in this world.

You call me bloodthirsty. You have every reason to, if you listen
to logic. If you listen from the point of view of one who truly
does shake with rage at the thought of one murdering the innocent,
at the thought of someone making a mockery of all that is good
and righteous in this world, you would understand.

Instead of pointing out the inconsistencies in the Church's behaviour,
it would perhaps be better for you to go about your own life as you
choose to live it. Until you truly understand the nature of faith
and good, none of what I say or what any other Church member says will
make any sense.

The path is a difficult one, but one that many have taken up before.
To quote Ryvern, many seek freedom from conscience, in their evil
and selfish pursuits, but none truly find it. There is always the
nagging feeling. Sartan would call it mortal weakness, I'm sure.

I say it's beautiful. The Church will always welcome you with open
arms, despite the fact that it sometimes seems that we are harsh
and callous in our institutionalized and political organization.
Remember, despite the exterior, at it's core, the Church is about
love and forgiveness, in an ugly, brutal, violent world.

Israfel.

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Chronos, in the year 253 AF.
