You seem to have quoted me as having said, "Now I don't think anyone of intelligence can reasonably insist that the wounded man and the doctor weren't friends." You then went on to say that they WERE friends. Well... that would have been just fine except you apparently read the quote incorrectly. Go back and read it again if you must, you ended up completely agreeing with me actually. And there was a time in my life when I would have also died for my friends. I survived, and grew up. A friend who will die for you is very rare, for the obvious reason that, well, they tend to die =/
And as for my comparing friendship to the "symbosis of two fungii" as you put it, well, I almost always look at things in technical terms and I do believe that friendship is a form of symbosis, with the goal being that both people benefit from it. As for spending time with them, etc... that is just getting to know each other so that you can see what your interests are, etc., and if you aren't compatible then you don't stay friends. Simple, yes?
