I would invite you to come to Wolfhaven to further discuss this issue,
Morrigan, for you by your own admission say you do not know very much
about groves. I would be very happy to educate you so you might gain
a better understanding as to why we hold such passion for the forest.
Exterminating a grove does totally destroy the herbs that grow there,
but this is ineffective at "disarming" a druid or sentinel. I have yet
to see a druid or sentinel stop in the middle of battle to harvest. The
herbs can be protected in such a manner that they return in an amazingly
short time after being destroyed, and to this we give thanks to Gaia.
Even if the herbs were destroyed in a place which was not so protected,
the Oakstone is vigilant to the needs of replanting.
This example is not true to the situation, but it is similar, and can
perhaps shed some light on why extermination is nothing but a blow
directly at nature itself, and has no real consequences to an individual
druid or Sentinel.
An Occultist, named Jon, attacks and kills a monk. Jon uses his essence
in the attack, a large part of which came from the Orphanage in Ashtan.
The monk retaliates by burning the Orphanage in Ashtan to the ground.
Jon still has other sources for his essence, and those orphans did not
disappear in Ashtan, merely the building. They can still be used to
provide Jon with essence.
How would Ashtan react to this situation? Their city was attacked, and I
would believe they would brand this monk an enemy to Ashtan. The monk
did not really harm Jon directly, but he did harm Ashtan by destroying
part of the city itself.
As to your post, Napoloen, regarding Vertigo's name being mentioned by me,
it was because Vertigo's grove was the one exterminated by Ryvern which
led to the Oakstone branding Ryvern an enemy to the forest. The same
would have been done had Ryvern exterminated a location in the forest
which was not anyone's grove. I am surprised you were unaware of this,
as Ryvern is a citizen of Ashtan.
