debate (because it exercises the mind)

I don't claim to be any sort of oracle for the church. I also don't claim to know all too much about their beliefs and doings. But I do recall something that is a bit disturbing in light of recent events.
An acquaintance, Morlana, was killed by you, Thalen, recently. The reason for this murder was stated as such: "...you have acted in a way that is evil and chaotic."
What I'm referring to (in the first paragraph of this labirynthe mess) is a statement made, publicly, by a prominent church member. That statement, roughly said that the church reveres ALL gods.
I don't understand why someone (who doesn't fight, by the way) was corporally punished for following her beliefs, with actions that were 'evil and chaotic'. If the church DOES in fact revere and respect all gods and goddesses, then aren't chaos and evil something acceptable? As they are specifically patronized by the diviniteis Eris and Sartan, respectively.
In theory, the church should be a place of rampant freedom, and diversity. It doesn't appear this way.
I'm not criticizing the church, I am simply trying to understand why the beauty of the church is being beaten down with a big, righteous, stick.
Thanks for your time.
