Shrines

Since my name is mentioned in the previous posts, I'll make some
clarifications here.

Some have approached me about the removal of the shrine in the
Hall of Pillars in Azdun. I was accused as the defiler, since I happened
to be seen standing there (note the probability of finding oneself to
be standing at a shrine these days). As I have repeated to others over
and over again, I did NOT do it. What I have gathered so far, a rite of
demons was responsible for pulling it down from golden to crystal,
thus making it vulnerable to random defilers. The one who happened
to remove it wasn't and has never been a citizen of Ashtan either.

The treaty as laid out in post #2016 is missing out on a number of
details, leaving it open to various interpretations from all sides. I
suggest renegotiations for a new treaty, so that Ashtan and the Church
can stick to it without further disputes. If that fails, probably war is
the solution.

I have been an active defiler of the shrines for many reasons. First,
it has been a long-time habit ingrained in me by notables like Angelo
and Nimos. Second, seeing that the Church continues to persecute
anyone found to be defiling, I take it up on myself so that the weak
and young ones may be left alone. Third, it is a dismantling of the
war machines of the Church. I don't mean disrespect to any god by
defiling the shrines at all. Everyone has the freedom to choose to
worship or follow a deity out of pure faith. Setting up shrines all
over the land, however, is out of the ambition of the Church to
gain strongholds in every territory.

I have been attacked by Tylin, Dingo and Rezzo on separate
occasions, all because I have been defiling those shrines not protected
by the treaty. This remains disputable whether it's a breach of the
treaty, but this brings us to the question -- what is the purpose of
the treaty then?

What is stopping us from defiling the shrines protected by the treaty
now?

Mistral, Minister of War and Archon of Ashtan

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Ero, in the year 233 AF.
