Conviction Versus Convenience

Lo.

The wonderful thing about Nature. It is full of many places with a wide variety of life. Some creatures thrive amidst others and a constant struggle for survival. There is plenty of prey for them and the predators that feed on them. Then there are places where the predator is the environment itself such as the frigid tundra or the harsh heat of the desert.

Which leads me to my next point.

What is convenient and what is conviction depends on the person. Sometimes they are the same thing. Other times they aren't.

It's convenient to eat plants when your convictions are about not eating meat and you have plenty before you. So, then they would be the same. At other times though, these two war with each other.

It's convenient to sit by while someone is getting mauled by a bear because getting up would require energy whereas you can sit down and do nothing.

It's conviction to fight the bear even though it might cost your life because you believe in helping others.

This leads to my next point.

Conviction is something measured by the test of time. It is holding fast to what you believe in no matter what. It's acknowledging that you may make mistakes but in the end you hold true to the course you believe in. It's weathering the storm no matter how bad it gets. When that conviction wavers, when it breaks, when you change your mind... That's not on others.

That's on you.

In the end, Nature will stand. She will rise up again as she always does. Across the forest, across the deserts, across the grasslands where butterflies and hares thrive, across the jungles where the predator one day may be prey the next...

Ever,
Tashigawa, the Sloth
