An overdue response

Hail, devotee of the Oceans. Icy winter tidings to you.

Some months ago, you approached me seeking my formal recommendation. Having spent much of autumn in meditation on the matter, I have an answer for you.

Many years ago, a knight-aspirant approached me for my recommendation. I gave her a task that her compatriots decried as unfair and impossible; when the complaints grew too vexing, I quieted them by achieving it myself.

The task she did not complete shall now be yours, and so too will you inherit the same terms. If you wonder why such a response would be worth the public being aware of, you need only read on.

The thing I value above all else in mortals is consistency under duress; can you maintain your composure, your spirit, your spine in the face of great hardship? Are you moved by the tumult of difficulty, or are you able to remain firm in your resolve and bearing? A knight must live the latter, and your quest is meant to test whether you are capable.

If you wish for my recommendation, then you will serve ten years as a Champion - or Assassin - with the following caveats:

- You may not walk within the safety of walls or defenses; no lingering inside of a city, a temple, a ship, a house, or any other similar location that renders you safe from the tribulations of the world

- You must complete at least three contracts on behalf of those who hired you

- You must, where able, continue to hunt and make the appropriate offerings to your Lord

Should you accept - and should you survive - then you will have my endorsement. Barring that, then you will likely need to look elsewhere.

I will await your reply until the beginning of this coming summer. If I have heard no word by then, then I shall consider the endeavor forfeit.

In strength,

Sir Aodfionn Wintermourne
The Knight Arbiter
