To Seldin, Regent of Hashan, a petition for justice and review

Seldin,

I write to you not in fury, though fury was what I was given reason to feel, but in the measured tone of one who has considered the matter, and finds it wanting on every count of fairness.
This evening, within the walls of our city, I was set upon by Alania. This is not conjecture. She has herself confirmed on the city channel, to all who bore witness, that she was "actually trying to kill him and insult him." Her words. Her candor, at least, I grant her.
I called for a regent. I called twice. The city heard me. What the city heard in return was Ildiko, who was present throughout, telling me that she was "the one who told me to shut up twenty minutes ago." This was her answer to a citizen being assaulted by another citizen. Not arbitration. Not inquiry. A reminder that she had already dismissed me.
When I refused to be silenced, for I was being attacked, Seldin, not merely inconvenienced, Ildiko removed my ability to speak on the city channel for an Achaean day. She then announced to Hashan that Ruddra had been muted, as though the lesson were mine to learn and not Alania's.
I do not contest a regent's right to maintain order. I contest the sequencing of justice here, which went: victim speaks, victim is told to be quiet, victim raises voice, victim is silenced. The one who drew first blood was left free to mock me on the very channel from which I was removed.
I ask only this of you: look at what happened today, in full, and tell me whether a citizen of Hashan ought to reasonably expect that calling for a regent will result in his muting rather than Alania's restraint.
As for much less you have called me to the regent room.
I am a Trader, Seldin. Not a warrior. This was not a joke.

With the dignity I am still permitted,
Ruddra Rousseau
Trader, Alchemist, and citizen of Hashan, presently muted and without justice

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Scarlatan, in the year 1005 AF.
