Dear Latus,
today is your 700th birthday. I miss you. You, Latus Sioraiocht, the Paladin, the Guardian Knight, the Templar Knight, you, part of the spiritual leadership of Good and Order, and, from 379 AF, the Sultan of Shallam, until 385 AF, with dear Solar Stormcrow becoming Sultan.
Your life was full of inspiring energy.
Honourable, generous, fully embracing your Satyr self by being the goat, full of humour, yet politically no-nonsense, clear and straight to the point, and son, and husband, and father, grandfather, great grandfather, a friend to many, an enemy to many, not even losing spirits when Mhaldorian forces once helt you hostage, only to kill you over and over so many times, which was still possible back then, centuries ago.
You also applied this scenario to the city you lead, as I find in PUBLIC 13655:
Shallam is proud to make public the latest amendment to its Laws.
7.7-
A citizen resurrecting someone with the sole purpose of immediately
attacking them and/or causing their death will result in that citizen
being ousted from the city.
The law is not retroactive.
I believe it was your fate that eventually lead to fundamental changes to do such rezzkillings, for all the generations to come.
I so wish I could still read your Shallam cityposts. Even when things got difficult internally, which they frequently did (especially after days and days of trying to defend the Jewel of the East against the forces of Mhaldor and Ashtan), you remained a uniting force and often managed to erase anger that had creeped into exhausted citizens.
One thing you wrote on the Shallam Boards has been deeply imprinted into my existence and has served as guidance to me ever since...I cannot quote ad verbatim, but my heart remembers
"Try your best to not be easily offended, and try your best to not easily offend others."
I sadly do not recall the later parts of your life. At some point, as I find searching the PUBLIC newsposts you made, you were not Knight, anymore, and I also do not know when you stopped awakening, eventually, and why.
No matter: Love ya, goat.
Forever Laras, MD
Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Glacian, in the year 1001 AF.
