Hail, Sapience.
I have recently posted about collecting stories for the Living Chronicles of Achaea (Public news #22828). However, Nissa, Head Archivist of the Lucretian Athenaeum, has reminded myself that what is most memorable may not always be the grand spectacles, but also the small, personal everyday interactions.
Perhaps you remember clothing and teaching a scrappy little girl that would later become Razor, World's Greatest Assassin.
Or maybe you recall the dissatisfaction of the Delosian messenger with his wages and how he went on strike until his pay was successfully renegotiated.
Maybe you were there when the publican Harris fall down the steps of the Eventide Alehouse, or saw Caspiite ships do battle with tritons at sea.
These small instances, though perhaps unable to constitute an extended retelling on their own, are still facets of our world that deserve commemoration if they made an impression on you.
And so, for the Living Chronicles of Achaea, I call for your memories of these, too. Any interaction, however big or small, is welcome as long as it fulfills the below criteria. From these, we will select the best and preserve them in a manner that will be disclosed later.
[ Submission criteria ]
1. The recollection must be of an incident that really happened, not one imagined.
2. Your recollection cannot be overlong: aim for an average of seven to eight lines if transcribed to parchment. Note: 'lines' does not mean thick paragraphs, though there is some flexibility. See example below.
3. The interaction does not have to have happened to you personally. It can be something you witnessed.
4. The recollection must be conveyed from a third-person perspective.
5. You will need to specify the specific location that the interaction occurred at, or - if one is unknown - propose a plausible location.
6. Private housing locations and ships will not be accepted. All else that is public (including city areas) are acceptable. (The following example occurred in a private housing location, but is presented as an example only.)
7. Multiple submissions are allowed. Submit as many as you wish.
8. Include a little introduction before the actual submission to explain why this interaction was memorable to yourself.
[ Example submission ]
The following interaction is memorable to myself as it happened almost immediately after the successful signing of the Treaty of Amical Protectorate and Feudal Vassalage of the Asterian Restoration in 986AF.
Location: Chambers of the Chronicler (Asterian Athenaeum)
A loud, furious banging resounds from the door to the chamber.
Immediately, tension ripples through the small celebratory gathering in the comfortable study - two Mhun, a Rajamala, and a Human. After a hasty exchange of wine goblets for drawn weapons, they stand in a battle-ready formation. Cautiously, the dark-haired Mhun reaches for the doorknob.
"Who goes there-" challenges the grey-furred Rajamala as the door swings open, only to be cut off as a huge, fully armoured Sea Ogre lumbers through. "...oh," she trails off.
"Hullo," the Ogre grins in response, completely at ease.
With an exasperated sigh, the Human knight lowers his sword, and the others follow suit.
"You brute!" he exclaims, part in relief and part in annoyance.
The Ogre whirls upon the knight, towering a whole head over him as he brings the full brunt of his indignation to bear.
"You fat!"
[ Deadline ]
We will accept entries from now till the
= 1st of Glacian, 999 AF =
This deadline is not flexible, so be sure to complete your submissions to myself before then. Please ensure you sign your letter so that proper attribution can be given.
There are hundreds of thousands of memorable interactions that may have happened over the years, many of which will be unique to us or may have been long forgotten by others. This is an excellent opportunity to honour these recollections that linger in our minds and share them with the world.
No interaction is too mundane, no memory too trivial. Send them all. They are welcome in the Chronicles.
I look forward to seeing through your eyes.
