Fermented Shark

Greetings, Sapience!

There has been a huge demand for my newest culinary creation, a dish from my homeland, which we tundra trolls affectionatly call "rotten shark".

While I did present the story of this dish to some, I figured I would share the origins with all of you in case you weren't able to attend one of them.

My people are a nomadic tribe who spend the winter in the mountains near Morindar (not too near!) then spend the spring and summer traveling across the tundra to near where Inbhir is. Then we travel back again to hunker down in caves during the coldest months.

Food on the tundra can be scarce at times, and our fierce warriors and brave peoples deserve to eat well.

Sharks are numerous in the water, and simple enough to catch, but their meat is poisonous if not cooked thoroughly. Also, there is little firewood in the area for doing so.

My ancestors came up with a very unique way of fermenting the meat. It is buried along the shore in the briny water that sits just below the surface of the land and left there for a few months while we make the trek towards Inbhir. On the way back, the boxes of shark are dug up and the meat is hung to dry on racks our warriors carry.

Once fully dried out, the meat has a light brown color and it simply melts away on your tongue in a very pleasing manner resembling some aged cheeses.

Yes, the...uh...aroma is a bit...pungent, sure. The taste, too, is somewhat acquired, but it is unlike anything else you'll eat!

The dish is usually available at my cart in Eleusis and from my person for those who are not enemies to Nature at very nominal fee.
