The arrogance of the civilized

Summer tidings about, witch of the East.

As is so often the case, it would seem that your cityborn hubris clouds your understanding of the world around you. This is, of course, understandable; you spent a lifetime serving the Horned God, gleefully leading some of the worst specimens of mortalkind in ineffective quests to strike at Her.

Now, in adulthood, you do as mortals have always done; take from Her, enjoy Her gifts for your own ends, and give precisely nothing in return. In this, you display plainly one of mortalkind's most offensive and vile predilections, one which we in Her village are continually seeking to excise from our own minds as well.

Your assessments of the Wildwood Queen and of Her village would be laughably incorrect were they not borne of such a profound ignorance; our work is not the rank desecration of the fog-huffers nor the suicidal pursuit of destruction so commonly found in the north - ours is a mission of restoration, of reclamation, and of resplendent growth across Her world.

Your ignorance in this cannot be forgiven, but it can be understood; in the many centuries since our unnatural introduction into Her perfect world, we have found many ways in which to harm Her for the sake of our convenience; from raising the false idols of iron and stone to the active dismemberment of Her wilds, mortalkind has metastasized dangerously, but not yet in ways that cannot be restored and reclaimed by Her. Yes, the eradication of civilization will not be a peaceful one, certainly, but that alone does not mean that we are simply antagonists fueled by nothing but bloodlust.

Far from it, we are perhaps most eager for what comes after the utter ruination of your cities - the reclamation and restoration of Her world. What the civilized peoples sought to unjustly bind, we would set free. That which the cityborn has subjugated, we will liberate. And that which was destroyed and decayed shall know both rebirth and return to Her Cycles.

Can you not imagine it? Can you not close your eyes and envision the world as it once was, and as it shall be again? The perfection of a river's flow, the diverse and vibrant interconnected systems that enable the continuation of life itself, the return of the world that even your own gods claim to adore? Those who are are willing to listen to the earth itself can hear it, can see it, and not leap headfirst in pursuit of that which comes.

It is understandable that you continue to be ruled by fear and cling to the past, for without markedly different choices on your part, the is no place in the future for you, nor for any who would disrespect and desecrate Her.

If you are unable to weather the knowledge that you are in fact more disease than cure, then perhaps all is lost. At any rate, may your future bring you many opportunities to become more personally acquainted with Her Cycles very soon.

In life and death, in decay and rebirth,
