On Experiencing Emotions

Dear Atul,

You concluded your missive dismissively assuming that we not only don't experience emotions, but would experience something akin to anger or heartbreak over your departure from Cyrene and your parting words.

Allow me to assure you this is not the case. I, for one, feel neither anger nor heartbreak, but disappointment. I am deeply disappointed in you, Atul. Not a month ago I was praising you in Cyrene's news for your proactive approach towards attempting to mount a positive change in Cyrene. Your numerous proposals have been well-received and subject to healthy debate, and yet you have chosen to turn your back on not only Cyrene as it stands, but the Cyrene you hope to build.

It is one thing to decry a city as it stands, but it is another entirely to bemoan a city's potential and then do nothing to try to realize it. Worse still is it to make such a piteous attempt to better things, then give up at the first sign of hardship. In Cyrene, those who work to help others are known as "mountaineers". Atul, you couldn't even climb a hillock.

You are a disappointment, Atul. You are a disappointment to the spirit of Cyrene, which you have failed to grasp; to the spirit of activism, in which you have failed to persevere; to the spirit of growth, which you have failed to understand. You, sir, are little more than a mewling child satisfied by little more than selfish and instant gratification, by which I mean you will never be satisfied by anything less than what you want, when you want it. Go forth into the world with your pettiness and your resentment and know that you will always be hungry.

Sincerely,
Taelle Si'Talvace
