The Seleucarian Games Begin!

Sapience,

On the 19th of Sarapin, eight hundred and two years after the fall of Seleucar, we gathered at the grounds of the Asterian Restoration to make history, starting the Seleucarian Games and declaring to the world that we do not so easily bow to invaders. The beacon that we lit together now shines over the old heart of the empire, proving to the world that the light and the charge of Seleucar live on in the modern age.

And now, it's time for the games to begin! Throughout this year, we'll be holding all the usual games for an anniversary celebration and more. They're a chance to win prizes, take part in games that won't take bowing to or even acknowledging the Tsol'teth, and of course, they will crown a true champion of the year 802, one chosen by the entire continent!

The rest of this post will be a description of the events planned so far. Some of this is still being worked out a bit, as we gather volunteers and participants, so keep an eye on the boards! And for anyone who missed the ceremony, and would like to see an account of what was said and done, just send a message.

So that everyone doesn't have to dig through this post to find times, the schedules for the games will be posted after this one, starting with our Championship Events.

--------------------
Championship Events:
--------------------
These are the traditional events run each anniversary games. They will be the main games of the Seleucarian Games, and, like normal, will earn the participants points so tha twe can declare a true champion of 802!

---Twins Tournament---
Skill at combat has been tested in tournaments throughout the ages, and like all anniversary games, will be here. Teams of two will compete to see who has the best technique, strategy, and cooperation, and try to come out on top! The tournament will be held double elimination style, and use the normal tournament rules.

---Hunting Contest---
Testing endurance, knowledge of the world, and raw strength, we will of course be holding a hunting contest! This contest will likely be run as an essence contest instead of a more traditional experience contest, since essence is something that we can practically measure, but otherwise will be held in much the same way.

---History Quiz---
As a celebration of the anniversary of our history and the start of our Modern Age, it's only fitting that we challenge ourselves with knowing our history. As usual, this quiz should be quite challenging, so study up!

---Foozle---
We're actually still seeing if holding a proper foozle will be possible, since it's one of the few that can't be done without assistance. Hopefully, Bruyan might be willing to host another, since he seems happy to be the best announcer in the realms with Tharos controlled, but we'll see, and we'll keep you all updated!

--------------------
Seleucarian Events:
--------------------
These are larger events held to celebrate Seleucar's legacy, and this unique anniversary. After all, Seleucar was known for far more than how well they could hunt or run about the world foozling. These events will be going on throughout the games, with a final event held for each of them, and there will be a post for each to properly explain the details.

---The Nikolas and Severian Debate Series---

The first holder of the staff of Nicator was not known for his strength in battle, but for his words. It was those words, alongside the genius of Severian, that allowed for Seleucar to exist. We will be celebrating these earliest days before the founding of the empire with a debate series of our own, starting with several exhibition debates throughout the year, and ending in a small tournament.

---The Glories of Seleucar Crafting Contest---

The Age of Light was known for its knowledge and its works, but in the eight hundred years since, the culture of Sapience is once again flourishing like never before. To celebrate this, we will be holding a design contest, themed around Seleucar, its history, and its legacy. If you want to put your design skills to work to win some credits and other prizes, I hope you'll take part!

---The Tournament of the Unbroken---

Combat is an important part of our world and our history, but sometimes in the desire to kill as fast as possible, we lose sight of the artistry and techniques behind our skills. And so, using the traditions of the Carmine Circle, we will be holding a ritual dueling tournament! For those who haven't seen a ritual duel, it's a fighting style that prioritises showmanship and technique, instead of raw killing power, and can be quite fun to watch!

We may also have a last event to put here, that I'm seeing if we can get set up. Keep an eye out for more news!

--------------------
Cultural Events:
--------------------
These are the smaller events traditionally held throughout the year, to celebrate and challenge each other in other areas!

My full list of events here is still a bit incomplete, as I try to lock in people to run certain events (if you want to volunteer for anything listed here, or for something you don't see here, please let me know!) The goal here is to hold as many of the normal events as possible, to give everyone a chance to compete, and prove that the Tsol'teth's games mean nothing. So, the cultural game list so far:

---Jousting Tournament---
A traditional show of skill at riding and fighting, jousting has been practiced from Seleucar's time and on! Come join us to take part or watch, without having to perform for the Tsol'teth!

---Ship Arena event---
Naval power has always been an important part of any city state's skills, and those who read through our histories will know that Seleucar too prided itself on its navy. Here, we'll all get to show it, and see which city has the most skilled sailors in the Modern Age!

---Drinking contest---
We're going to see who can hold their booze the best, in one of the most traditional challenges of all. What more is there to say?

---Archery contest---
For hunters, soldiers, and many others, archery can be an art of its own. Without the ranges that have been used in past championships, this one might be a little different than before, but I promise it'll be interesting!

If anyone wants to volunteer to help, has any questions, or anything else, please let me know with a message or a tell.

Let the Games begin!

Ever Loyal,
Keorin, Commander of the Vashnars
