An Invitation

Greetings, Eleusis.

As before, I write not to your leaders; I write instead to you, the rank-and-file. The warriors who have really bled in the name of your charge, misguided a mission as it may be.

Take note of your Hierophant's post. Even now, as I wrote to you before, he denies you the opportunity to stand on your own two feet. Rise above your weakness or crumble under your enemies' Strength, you are denied the opportunity to be your own person.

I understand how difficult it must be, to consider defeat. In this conflict, despite your leaders' bleating, you have yet to strike an even semi-decisive blow, and all the while, the forests around the continent burn. Your blood turns the soil of your precious lands to red mud, and your broken bodies will fuel the saplings that may come to replace what proud, leafy sentinels once stood tall in the Ithmias, the Black Forest, the Aureliana, the Aalen, and so on.

Despite all this, despite all of your bleeding, and all of your sacrifice, your Hierophant denies you even the shame of defeat. He takes from you the one saving grace this war could possibly have offered you- the ability to recognise weakness, to see yourselves without vanities and without pretenses, and the opportunity to strive to overcome it; in this, he has truly taken everything from you.

I, myself, have seen the courage and skill of some of Eleusis' warriors. I know you are not a people wholly without merit... but you are a people without direction, and without purpose. You have surrendered unity of spirit and singlemindedness of drive for a few cliched words about protecting wildlife, and that has led you to where you are, right this moment. Dreading the next engagement, fearing what will come tomorrow, from your enemies' hands.

Linger no longer under that yoke. The path we walk in Mhaldor is not easy, and it is not a sure thing- but succeed or fail, the outcome is wholly -ours-. We will not beg for mercenary aid. We will not disguise defeat and bleat about victory. And we will not rob you of the opportunity to be greater than what you were born as.

The Lord's City takes all who cast aside pride, and fear, and willful ignorance. Come, walk this path with us. It is not too late, for you to rise above what Eleusian leadership has made of you.

In service to Him,

Reyson, a soldier of Mhaldor

Penned by my hand on the 14th of Chronos, in the year 743 AF.
