On Chaos, Creation, and Mephaos

'Lo, Sapience,

Those of you who are still aware of the sermon performed by Father
Mephaos Crescent will agree that it was quite a display of... well...
something. I know that twenty-five shots of whiskey later, I am still
trying to rinse away the overbearing sensation that I have come away
from a conversation dumber than when I entered into it. While the good
Father spoke, I heard quite a lot of nonsense. Statements about
crickets, and roads. Birds, and roads. Skies... and more roads. I can
only assume that the intent of his sermon was to urge Sapience out of
doors and into the embrace of Nature. I thought I had come to hear the
words of an aspirant of Valour.

Allow me to to help you to wrap your head around a few crucial facts,
Mephaos. For millennia - ever since the beginning of time - Chaos has
loaned a certain vitality to Creation. But, like all good things, this
must come to an end. This is inevitable. Whether you care to acknowledge
it or not is of no real consequence. You may turn your back upon the
truth, but one day, it will find you. When the apocalypse is upon us, I
will stand beside my son - the Overseer you sought to disparage - in
true excitement. We will share a drink as we snicker at the sight of
your panic, and we will mock the desperation blazing within your eyes
while you try to hold on for dear life. Then, and only then, will you
have your proof, scribed large upon the precious crickets and
cobblestones to which you seem so attached.

Creation may yet remain, but every day, Chaos takes back a little of
what it has given. Creation will be destroyed. It is simply a matter of
time. In the face of this inexorable truth, the words of a simple Father
are meaningless. Climb your mountains, Mephaos, and gaze upon your blue
skies, for it will not be long before the stormclouds of annihilation
come rolling in.

You may follow any path you choose, Mephaos, but that life you so
treasure will be squandered as you wander in circles. Oblivion is the
only road that leads anywhere.
