Hello Sapience,
Last year I celebrated my 2 centuries with needle and thread with a
contest to win a tailoring licence and change the world of the winner
just as mine was changed.
I want to thank everyone for their submissions, I received over two
dozen and it really was enjoyable to have an insight to your creativity
and passion. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for taking part
and taking a chance.
I do not want my announcement to discourage any of you, so many of you
have wonderful gifts and talent in this area that I am sure you will get
your chance. Stick with it, determination is something that has seen me
last my two hundred years and remember where there is a will there is a
way! You can forge your dreams into reality!
That being said, I did have to make a decision. It was extremely hard,
one of the hardest things I've done in my life and the volume of entries
astounded me.
It came down to two entries in the end, two that were compared time and
time again. Their subjects looked at, their technique compared and their
elegance scrutinized. After days of soul searching and comparison I have
decided that both tailors will receive a licence.
Congratulations to Alexandrite Corten-Silverwing and Grandue Winterhawk!
Their entries are as follows-
a formal champagne-coloured crinoline sash
Crisply loomed crinoline, produced from the finest handspun linen of a
village's season, has been bias-cut and hemmed with gold thread into a
tailored sash suited equally to both genders. The fabric is twice-dyed,
once as skeins to a color akin to nearly translucent vellum and once
more after weaving to exactly resemble the shade of celebratory
champagne in a sun-struck crystal flute. A polished brass ring has been
sewn into one end of the sash for easy length adjustment, the single
length of crinoline can be doubled around a lady's waist or worn from
shoulder to opposite hip for a stout Troll minister. The same golden
thread that loops in a dense whip-stitch along the hem is twirled with a
thread of silver for the subtle embroidery that patterns an otherwise
smooth surface. Upon closer inspection, the design depicts a repeating
diagonal scrollwork that resembles magnified metal filigree. These airy,
open ornaments allow ample space for emblazonment of heraldic arms or
words to be embroidered along the trim. The only other notable
decoration is a small ombre-coloured rose insignia traced out on the
reverse side of the sash, unobtrusively hidden next to the brass ring.
AND
an arctic pair of frosted light blue hunting boots
A faint aroma of pine surrounds this exemplary pair of boots, each
having been masterfully cut and sewn to match the other in both
appearance and weight. Thin dragonskin has been scraped, dyed, and bent
around the throat and instep of the boot before flaring out to create
the large sole needed for trudging through the arctic snowdrifts. Though
hardened across the throat and toe, the leather surrounding the ankle
has been beaten soft to improve mobility. Two elegant swirls of diamond
dust have been sprinkled across the instep and toe, bound to each boot
by a resin during the glazing process. Thick snowshoe hare fur has been
sewn inside the boots to insulate against the extreme cold and a pair of
thick pull straps adorn the tops, each ending with a handful of brightly
colored green and blue misshapen glass beads. A thick mixture of bee's
wax and pine sap has been spread into all the seams to waterproof this
true piece of craftsmanship.
Once again thank you everyone, please continue to put your passion into
everything you do and continue to craft and create!
Kindest regards,
Lavinia Stormcrow-Xanatov
