Hail, Sir Goryllin.

Your recent notice, while not the only example of such misconceptions,
illustrates to a certain degree the need for the clarification of the
purpose of Mhaldor and the armies of Evil.

We, as emissaries of Evil, do not view war as a 'favorable pastime'. War
is not a way to idly entertain our soldiers, nor is it simply another
way to whittle away the hours. If Cyrene, or you, Sir Goryllin, believe
that I lead our legions to your gates and slew your guards out of
boredom, or to assuage some unfulfilled lust for blood, you will find
that you are quite mistaken. While there is a certain mental stimulation
in the formation and execution of tactical maneuvers, there is more at
work here.

A fact often overlooked by those who do not study Evil is that we seek
not only to advance ourselves, and further our individual causes. We
seek, as stated in our public doctrine, the advancement of nothing less
than sentient life. Through discipline, through cruelty, through all the
methods listed in our tomes, we further the growth of sentient life to
the vision of the Lords.

The peaceful city of Cyrene, as you called it, does not allow for such
advancement. Your doctrines are centered around the status quo, keeping
things as they are and sheltering those who would stagnate in their
personal lives. Without combat, your bodies grow weak. Without hardship
and suffering, your spirits grow stale. Without war, your discipline
wanes until there is no structure to your daily lives, much less your
armies.

As emissaries of Evil, we of the Legion seek to shake you of this
apathy. We will bring war upon you, that you might taste change. We will
bring suffering, and tyranny. We will bring death, and pain, and fear,
and despair. We will lay all these things at your gates, on your
doorsteps, and in your hearts. And you, Sir Goryllin, and your peaceful
city of Cyrene, will grow and change. You will know pain, you will know
cruelty, and you will know hardship. Your lives will be forfeit, but
your souls will grow stronger, until you, too, will work to further
yourselves as the Masters have ordained.

In service,
Archfiend Chima Lichlord
Grand Marshal of Mhaldor

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Glacian, in the year 519 AF.
