Peaceful Coexistence

Lady Di'Nothos, Freemen of the Eleusian Village,
Preferring to address what we might charitably assume to be rightful
seat of Eleusian power, I offer sympathies on behalf of the Council for
what must seem a terribly inconveniencing escalation of force. I lament
the cruel treatment of your citizens, and lament still more that they
deserve it. As for your surrogate, while he is not lacking a certain
creativity and even literacy, he yet proves equally devoid of sound
judgment or concern for your many subjects.
Through Creation, the Divinities saw fit to grace Their children with
unequal shares of our mortal talents. Possessed of a firmness of mind
and a discipline of action, the Mhaldorian people are bred to hardship,
schooled in suffering, and trained to treat with Victory and Defeat with
the same cautious skepticism. We understand that Midnight raids against
a sleeping city have ever been the fruit of a cowardly disposition, and
it pains me to think that your Ithmian Knights would tarnish their
reputation for mere expediency.
By a similar token, the Eleusian people are recognized as exercising an
ancient protectorate over more the verdant aspects of Creation, and
Nature, generally. I recall your being possessed of the patience
necessary to catalogue the sundry flora and fauna of a given grove,
sometimes for days on end. These are strengths that are too easily
dismissed for trivialities, but I digress.
Bitterness and mutual recriminations have long defined the relationship
between our peoples. Habits of conflict, cheers of victory, the despair
of success, phantoms of past injuries, and the apprehension of future
peril all operate to inflame our passions and silence the subtle voice
of reason. The time for near-endless deliberation, deferral, and delay
is drawing to a close - a singular opportunity to grant your Freemen the
unfettered pursuit of simple pleasures lies before you.
Rather than gratify the egoistic inclinations of that least-reputable
family at the expense of countless villagers, recall that, as leaders,
the best and true foundations of our greatness lies in our minions:
their numbers, their prosperity, their order, and their security. I pray
that this missive finds you and yours positioned to lay aside past
grievances, that we might in our labours take to that which Divine
providence hath given, as I remain,
In service,
