Protection

Hear ye citizens of the Zanzibaar isle. As current voice of The Pirates
of Meropis I offer you this:
We strike sails forth today from our hidden cove on Shipwreck Isle to
bring you our only contract of protection offered to land dwellers. Your
dock hands, sailors, and smugglers alike have been of use to us over the
course of our development. Your watery cove has assisted our numbers in
more then one ambush on our enemies ships. The mere mention of anchoring
in your port brings a grin to even the most scurvy pirate among my crew
seeking your famous rum and wenches. We offer to protect your
inhabitants from the fowl land lubbers that darken your ports with ships
crewed only to slaughter you. How many times have you seen the white and
gold flags approaching your dock only to unload false nobles seeking
unseen bloodshed by their righteous brethren on the Sapience mainland?
Your castle guards are fierce indeed.. But not fierce enough, nor plenty
enough to protect you all.
Thus is our formal offer:
We the Pirates of Meropis will protect your inhabitants, those loyal to
Zanzibaar. We will reserve the right to not engage any target for any
reason. However, never shall any member of the Pirates of Meropis remain
a member if he or she should for any reason slay one of you. We will
offer those who offend no less then one clear and concise warning to
disengage hostilities against your people, before we bring hostilities
upon them in behalf of your defence. That is, if they first manage to
get their rowboats past our war ships. In return you will find a method
to compensate our captains that come to your aide for your steep dock
fees. Some more then others may be more swayed by your fine wenches or
rum.
Should you accept these terms for defence, perhaps further negotiations
regarding a shipping route can be brought to the table.
Penned by my hand on the 4th of Glacian, in the year 505 AF.
