Wisdom and folly

Shallam, oh city of ignorance, listen to the words of Babel against you.
Your streets are thronged by fools, and your allies crawl with idiots.
Your libraries are packed with lies, and your sages chatter deception.
Your gods mislead you, your teachings poison your soul, and your priests
crush you underfoot. How do you not see this?
The Light which you serve is not a force that preserves Creation. It is
a flame that consumes those who oppose the wills of your masters. They
seek nothing more noble than power to assuage their own bloated egos by
forcing their fellows to bow before them. Your own wills are swept
aside, deemed irrelevant or wicked, and your very souls become nothing
more than vassals pandering to the whims of petty tyrants.
The Church stands as chief among these evils. What has the Church done
except parade around singing its own praises and demanding that the
world obey its commands? Why should you obey its commands? Because it
speaks with the authority of the gods of Light? Do not be so foolish!
Who is the tyrant over the tyrants, if not these gods themselves? Do you
imagine them truly to seek anything beyond their own power? Throw aside
such wrong-headed delusions! Cast off this burdensome yoke! Let nothing
but your own wills determine your course. Let nothing but your own goals
and advancement define your path. Why should you live to serve another
when you can serve yourself?
Listen to the wisdom of Babel. The world is doomed to fall, and
everything in the world as well. What meaning, therefore, have things in
the world? No meaning, clearly. Everything came forth from Oblivion, and
everything returns to Oblivion, where everything is nothing. Therefore
live your lives for your own purposes, not the purposes of another.
There is no reason to do otherwise. Cast down the despots who bring you
misery and make you slaves. Embrace the true meaninglessness of all
things. Live for yourselves.
Penned by my hand on the 7th of Chronos, in the year 476 AF.
