Hope in the Face of Tragedy

Last month Chaos surged back in to prominence on the back of slaughter
and wickedness the likes of which our realm has not faced in
generations. While I mourn the massive loss of innocent life required to
bring the Spawn of the Unnameable Horror back to Sapience, my heart is
gladdened to see that Ashtan, once a bastion of Chaos, has realized the
error of her ways and now stands with those forces that would ensure the
continued growth of Creation.

Blessedly, the Spawn was contained within a small area and an
overwhelming force consisting of the Church, Shallam and a coterie of
allies from both Cyrene and Eleusis (blessings upon the valiant warriors
of those states) dispatched it before it could bring terror to the
larger populace. What was surprising was that Ashtan herself allowed
this group to pierce the historical heart of Chaos and, in so doing,
decisively turn the most dangerous incursion of Chaos since the time of
blessed Dawn's sacrifice. Verily, without Ashtan's aid in this manner I
fear that Chaos' presence would have been immeasurably more pronounced.
I welcome the citizens and government of Ashtan in their decision to lay
aside wickedness and turn from Chaos.

May the Light lead and we never fail to follow.

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Valnuary, in the year 455 AF.
