A horrible thought

Greetings Exalted Sultan of the City of Light,
A terrible thought struck me just now concerning one of Shallam's
veteran citizens, and a stalwart of the Holy Church and of the Elysians.
You and I both know that dark deeds and evil cunning thoughts are
present all around us. Speaking for myself, I have to admit and remind
you that those thoughts were even within me for some time. With that
knowledge, we both realize that some people will be vindictive and try
to hurt those in higher positions of power than themselves. I write to
you to prevent that from happening.
It is possible that some bad person trying to harm the Priestess Keturah
Sa'Rithven-Lighthawk's image and membership in your fine city would
eventually bring up to you and the Council some things she had done in
the past. There was indeed a time, decades ago, when she and the
Occultist Das spent a lot of time together, hunting around the realms
and spending lots of time earning gold by killing denizens in the
Underworld. These bad people who would try to harm her would likely
emphasize that Das was in fact an Occultist, a supporter, practitioner,
and wielder of Chaos, that horrible, horrible force that threatens
Creation and that you oppose so staunchly. In fact, those bad people
would point out to you that for simply thinking about not taking a hard
stance against Chaos, Shallam threw out other notables citizens. They
will definitely point out to you that it would be the highest form of
hypocrisy not to cast out this fine, noble Priestess Keturah for aiding
and empowering a Chaotic Occultist. After all, they would say, this
Priestess Keturah was working with Chaos and helping Chaos.
I beseech you, Sultan of Light, let not these bad people tarnish lady
Keturah's name! Let not one of your own divine order be cast out of the
city. Do all within your power to keep her there, should these bad
people come to you. If you get accused of hypocrisy, close your ears.
They have no city to run, after all, and their resolve is not as firm as
yours. What the Priestess Keturah did, in the past, by empowering Chaos,
was clearly different. At the time, the Church approached Chaos
innocently, not realizing it was destructive I'm sure. Keturah cannot be
blamed for having empowered a wielder of Chaos, an Occultist, for she
clearly could not have known how bad Chaos was as a Prelate of the Holy
Church before the new Codex was written. A splendid document, by the
way.
I pray to the Gods that no person will be so horrible as to bring any of
this up to you or the Council of the city of Shallam, staunch opponents
of all things related to Chaos.
