Shallam's Madness

So, recently, Alban, the Sultan of Shallam, held a referendum on whether
it was okay or not for Shallamese to bash with Occultists (at all, in
any circumstance). A few people said yes, it was fine in certain
instances, certainly enough that simply saying "No" to it, in all
instances, is out of bounds
So, what happens? Well, for starters, he boots those he knows who spoke
up to say that the proposed law is excessive. This includes myself,
Kotori, Greys, Amrylin, Vizharan, Rarch, and Najara.

I ask him what Council members (read: Viziers) supported him in this
decision, he said all but the one who was ousted (Najara).

First, I ask you Council members, Viziers, is this true? Did all of you
say "Yes, kick them out"? If not, Alban is lying, and you may wish to do
something about it.

Second, to the citizens of Shallam, are these the actions you wish to
see your government make? Do you believe these actions will see Shallam
return to greatness, where your Sultan boots those who disagree with
him?

You know me, you know I have been security minister twice in my life,
and have handled fines admirably, if I do say so. You know I was the one
who moved Shallam's guards into their current location, after we lost
nearly 40 of them in one go; nearly 100 in a single year. You know I
have spent my entire Achaean life as a Shallamese, joining just after my
departure from Loom, defending her, aiding her. My record speaks for
itself. Moreover, what you do -not- know, is I am the one who backs the
city's logs onto an ethereal scroll accessible only by one's soul, so
that the various Ministers are able to go back and check data (this is
important, for instance, for determining enemies fines).

You know Kotori. You know Rarch. You know Greys. You know Najara. You
know Amrylin. Their records speak for themselves, their history serving
the city speaks for themselves. All of this has been lost to you, due to
the actions of one Sultan who has, frankly, gone power mad, and does not
tolerate those who disagree with him.

None of us have broken any law. We spoke out against a law we did not
feel to be just, or in Shallam's best interests, -but none of us broke
it-.

Do you, the citizens of Shallam, wish to be ruled by a man who would
kick out those who have shown themselves time and time again to be loyal
to the city, and to her ideals, simply for disagreeing with him? Do you
wish all the aid and service that has been rendered, would continue to
be rendered, to simply be lost?

Third, to the members of the Guardian House, do you sit idly by, and
allow your duly appointed House member, the member -you- chose to sit on
the Council, and speak your views, to vote on your issues, to be ousted
and removed like this? Her position as a Vizier was not even recognized
by Alban. Alban claims he called a vote from the Viziers (he did not do
so over the government clan, I'll tell you that much), but he neglected
to ask Najara her vote. Yes, her vote is obvious in this case, but it
stands he ignored her position, her rank, her authority, which was given
to her by -you-. Will you tolerate this?

Shallam, Alban has long claimed he works in Shallam's best interest.
Perhaps that is his intention, but it clearly is not his effect. He has
broken all protocol, broken all trust, broken all responsibility, and
all ties of loyalty, to his city mates, and to his city, to kick out
those who vocally disagreed with him. Would you be a city of sheep, to
simply let him continue? To allow him to boot those who aid the city?
How is that aiding Shallam in her plight, to kick out those citizens who
serve her, who abide by her laws?

If you ever want to shine again, to truly -be- the City of Light, then
step up and stop this injustice.
