Knighthood

Recently, during a contestation of leadership, several valued members of
our House decided to branch off from the Wardens, finding that their
values, no longer met with our own.
During which I was presented with a letter from one of the departed that
was verbally explained to me to contain a contract expressing that they
may keep their "hird" name, as intellectual and actual property when
they turn rogue.
It is at my own oversight that I did not fully read this letter that I
confirmed with my seal. For within its subtext, it stated that I gave
permission for this said ex-Warden to bestow Knighthood, at will to
anyone they see fit.
Firstly it is not in my power to grant such authority
secondly I doubt
many would acknowledge such a decree from a non recognized body.
Whilst we are happy to encourage rogue wardens to take with them their
"hird" names and train up young men and women in the way of the knight.
We must void this letter, which holds no real power or blessing.
It is my error to have let this letter exist, and would not have begun
to give out the ability to knight individuals on a whim, certainly not
without the input of the elders in House Wardens.
All names are protected, and it is not our will or intention to besmirch
any other person or persons. We brought this to the public domain, for
we felt it important to make sure such potentially scandalous material
open before recourse.
The rights of rogues are an important and much talked about issue that
we do not take lightly. Every attempt has and will continue to be made
to make sure that we are fair to all. Whilst the argument of Rogue's
giving out knighthood is important, it is not our belief that such a
right should be neither given out on a whim by those without the
authority to do so, I refer to myself here. And that it should be
attained through more honourable means than through clauses hidden
within letters.
Whilst we foresee possible healthy debate over this matter, I state on
behalf of House Wardens, that this posting constitutes our own take on
the matter.
In Honour and Service,
Dame Aeryi Azon
Penned by my hand on the 12th of Chronos, in the year 427 AF.
