Freedoms Limits

My dear Nobi, and curious onlookers,
Ashtan is indeed a City of Freedom, we value this very highly, and
within this ambit is the freedom of speech. However, here I must draw a
distinction between the freedom to express opinion in a reasonable
manner, and vehement and unceasing harassment of another citizen, indeed
another citizen that happens to be an Archon. Ignoring the legality of
Bloodfeuds, about which you are mistaken, and which is not a real issue,
we must consider that although Ashtan is a city of principle, it also
takes account of the practical necessities of government.
To make a statement expressing opinion is one thing, to incessantly
attack the character of another citizen over the city channel is quite
another. You were repeatedly asked to curb your comments, and that you
were expressing them in an inappropriate manner on an inappropriate
forum. One of the roles of Archons is to balance the ideals of Freedom
with a proper propriety of public forum. If a person cannot maintain the
standards as required in any community, as a City Leader it is a
responsibility to address this problem with the tools democratically
conferred upon you.
Erhon is not a rash man, nor is he a fool. Do not presume prejudice as a
means of alleviating your own responsibility for the consequences of the
actions. If you have any further queries do feel free to bring them up
where things might actually be considered seriously rather than in the
gaze of public gossip.
Yours,
Mendax Mendacis
Archon of Ashtan
Penned by my hand on the 7th of Miraman, in the year 418 AF.
