Just by looking at the actions of the orphans of both cities we can tell
what their feelings are about the choir and the orphanage.

Any orphan that has been enrolled in the choir has eventual run away
from it prefering to live out on the streets, for what reasion only they
know. So obvoiusly they would rather the harsh life of homelessness over
that of the 'good' life of the choir.

Any being that is killed visits the halls of Maya and comes back, they
retain the knowledge of what has transpired. So therefore the orphans
remember living on the streets, being given candy, being led to the
orphanage and killed. So why do they still alow this to happen to them?
because they would rather have this small amount of food and temporary
respite from living on the streets at the expense of certain death, than
either joining the choir or staying on the streets.

So my question is this, what happens in the choir to make them prefer
the streets or even death over living for the church?
