Sludge, the poisoning of the rivers, etc.

I have a theory, which I'm going to lay infront of the realms. I ask
that anyone who reads this read it entirely before making comment, as it
seems to me, to be logical.
I believe that the underground sources of several rivers became
contaimenanted recently, with what I don't know, but it caused algae to
grow at an exponential rate, clouding the water. The clouding algae both
clogged the gills of fish, and blocked sunlight from reaching the other
plant life in the water, causing the fish to die of suffocation and the
water plants to die from not getting enough sunlight. The decaying plant
and fish matter further caused more contamination in the water, aiding
to the growth of the algae, increasing the affect. I believe the
'plague' that people are experiencing, which seems to come from being in
contact with the dead fish or the sludge which contains the dead fish,
to be a by product of the natural decay, though it is unnaturally
causing peoples flesh to rot. I back up my theory with observations that
I myself have become ill from being in contact with the rotting fish,
and that the clouds of sludge were composed of brown and green
particles, both colors of types of algae.
I believe that to be the problem, the cause and cure for it though, are
what I have yet to ascertain.
