Us and Them, The Denizens of Sapience

Dearest Hingar,

I would just like to explain some subtle differences the people of
Achaea exhibit.

Many of us, indeed I would say the majority you have talked to, are what
is known as Adventurers. We have been blessed with a purpose by the
Logos, though it may seem insignifigant to the rest of the world, it is
great enough that He keeps returning us to life if we have not yet
achieved it.

But then there is another section of the population. These are called
Denizens. There are some among the Denizen population who are returned
to life by the Logos, but most Denizens are like you, and suffer
permanent death once they are killed.

Fortunatly, we Adventurers have a phychological restraint. Whenever we
have killed a certain amount of a particular group of Denizens, our mind
goes blind to the rest. Indeed, the mild telepathic link all Adventurers
form in their inauguation on Loom Island, is such that all Adventurers
are blinded to Denizens if just one has killed them.

I believe this system was set in place by the Logos in such a time that
we did not have Caretakers like myself to look after the world, though
it does make my work alot easier. Unfortunatly, for you as well as us,
your destruction of the entire village bypassed this safeguard, and
thusly wiped out the entire population, something no Adventurer of
Achaea has ever been able to do, though many have tried.

I hope this enlightens you to the differences between Adventurers and
Denizens, and though I realise you would probably have destroyed Thera
anyway, atleast now you cannot hide behind the mask of ignorence.
