Questions, questions

Your tendency to act as a mass of individuals rather than as a
group, or groups, does tend to make it difficult to answer you all.
Thus, I shall attempt to make a few answers, but apologise for my
inability to even remember, much less attempt to answer, all of your
seemingly endless queries.
I believe it was Mordyval who insinuated some sinister motive behind
my not answering his questions. I have taken the time to answer this
one individual's questions privately.
Dinonicus - You are correct in surmising that we do not come back.
It is not an option for us to come back.
The devices we gave you work for you, though we are not entirely
sure how. Or, rather, I am not, but then I am no scientist.
Oenone - You have asked many questions, yet I sense that you do not
truly wish an answer. You write as though you have made some fell
blow to my clear, patiently written explanations. Still, I will
answer, pretending as though you truly wish an answer.
We encountered violence. And we prefer peace. Because we prefer
peace does not mean that that is the single, central, overriding,
unalloyed rule of our society, to the exclusion of all others. No.
We prefer peace, as all sane beings do. And we also do not just run
because of danger. We believe this to be true of all sentient
beings - we have other qualities and even imperatives. The desire to
learn. The desire to grow. The desire to work through difficulties.
The desire to overcome adversity.
You all are quite violent. So you have said. Often, at the least.
We realise this, more fully now than before.
But we also have friends here now. They are part of us. They have
joined our empire. We will not abandon them. The ideals of loyalty
and interdependence are also strong for us.
We hold you responsible for our deaths for the simple reason that
you caused them. Just as you hold us responsible for the deaths of
others on this plane. This is no revolutionary concept.
You claim that "we do things our way [here]." If by that you mean
that those who got here earlier, including several races that are
not native to Sapience as recorded in your own histories, that those
who got here earlier maintain dozens or more independent practices
and rules and manners of acting - if that's what you mean, then I
suppose I can accept that. But to imply that the way things are done
here is some generally accepted practice by those who reside here
on this plane, and that those who reside here have always done so:
then I must disagree.
It is quite obvious that you have chosen your own manner of
understanding our motivations. I have found that even understanding
one's OWN motivations is an endeavour quite risky and fraught with
inaccuracies. It is all the more unreliable when speculating on
the motivations of others. So I write to others who may read without
such a strong preconception and pre-judgement of this case.
