The Church

My dear young monk, I too have been curious on how the Church would
respond to your simple querries, and at this point, as a scholar, historian,
and philospher, I feel I must set Odysseus' statements in their proper light.
Odysseus states, "Chaos is a term used to describe the force that once tried
to destroy everything we know including the gods themselves." Earlier,
Odysseus stated, that the "gods themselves gathered together to fight
against chaos, and we too wish to help against that force." This seems to
infer that the Church was created to battle chaos, and since chaos almost
destroyed the gods, Odysseus hints that the gods and the Church have a
common enemy -- Chaos. However, if we look back into history, we find
that the War of Humanity ended with the creation of Sarapis, and many
philosophers have concluded that one of the reasons for Ayar to recombine
with Proteus into Sarapis was to prevent such a catastrophe from ever
happening again. Simply put, many believe that the very existence of Sarapis
is proof against a threat to creation. And, since Sarapis is eternal, you may
draw your own logical conclusion.

Of course, theologians may argue over whether any of the gods currently
fear chaos or, in fact, have since embraced certain aspects of chaos into
their own beings. My own thoughts are that, especially with the undisputed
existence of Sarapis, there is no threat to creation, at least nothing like
what was seen during the War of Humanity. Therefore, I would caution you
and others not to believe that the relationship between the gods and chaos
hold any animosity towards each other in these current times and would
even go so far as to suggest that some gods may even support or represent
some aspects of chaos. Certainly, Sarapis would never have created a
god of chaos if he did not believe this force was necessary.

In any event, I note that Odysseus says nothing about what the Church
believes Chaos to represent, except to state that Chaos is something
to be battled for "what it might bring." Odysseus further states nothing
concerning what exactly Order is. So, Herc, I urge you to look at
Odysseus' statements in this light and, if you find any meaning to his
vague words about what the Church is and represents, I invite you to
share them with the rest of us who feel he has said little if anything.
