I know that you are indeed wise, Mordyval, and are no hypocrite. Thus,
I'm sure you can see that the Vertani that killed some Ashtanites were
doing exactly the same thing that Szanthax and Xtassy were doing:
Exercising their freedom! If it is ok for them to exercise the freedom
to slay in another city, then surely it must be ok for those in other
cities to come to yours and slay! It is, as your leaders have said, not
really an official matter. Feel free to punish the Vertani offenders
when they are not in our fortresses, but as we Vertani believe in
freedom for our citizens, we will not be punishing them for their
actions, just as Ashtan declined to punish Szanthax or Xtassy for their
actions.

Again, what those Vertani did inside Ashtan today is precisely the same
as what Szanthax and Xtassy did in el'Jazira, and our stance will
precisely mirror Ashtan's stance on this matter, for we admire your love
of freedom and know that you will have a hearty chuckle and a manly slap
on the back for those Vertani who were exercising the freedom you so
claim to love.
