Necessity breeds invention.
It has been noted by scholars, that civiliazations that live under harsh
conditions, tend to be stronger in warefare and invention, than their
easy-lived neighbors. Cultures born on tropical islands tend to be
inventive mainly in the area of recreation and pleasure, while cultures
born in colder areas become master builders, hunters, gatherers,
tailors, and makers of thicker, heavier armour.
A society that is safe from the hardships faced by other societies will
never mature to the point that will allow it to survive should hard
times come. But the toughened man who has survived many winters, and
learned to slay and cook a meal that can keep him warm during the night,
is capable of handling whatever life may throw at him.
For that reason, beware the government that demonizes its rough-men, or
worse yet, outlaws the ownership of weapons of war. Beware the
government that would rather give you a fish to feed you for the day,
rather than encourage you to learn to catch your own fish, even if you
starve for a few nights in the process of learning. Become men of
invention and solutions, not a people of victimization and excuses. Heed
this advice, lest you find yourself unable to cope with life.
