More thoughts on evil...

Alright, this debate has been going on forever, I let people talk and
get their views out, and I realize I am just one more speaking my mind
in a collection of many, but I wanted to clear up a few things from my
personal perspective. this is going to be a bit long...

There are, I believe, varying views on how one should go about serving
Evil amongst our people, just as their are varying views on the subject
amongst the followers of good on their faith. We do however, each serve
our Lord, and understand that this is primary above all. The difference
in views in this matter help to strengthen us, as we may learn from one
another.

Evil is different from the term evil. a person who is evil works to some
extent in the views of our Lord, but may not recognise Him and pay the
homage that is due.

I will not go over the truths again, because I know you are all familiar
with them, or if not, you can always find somewhere that contains them
so they are reviewed, Lorielan's library has them early on in the Tomes
of Sartan I, I believe.

I do believe their is a place for personal ambition within Evil.
Preacher Herenicus and I have, ourselves, debated this topic. However,
it is agreed that the will of the Lord comes first beyond all other
things. Our city is also important to us, as it is a place where we
group together and benefit from our combined beliefs and worship to the
Lord. We are strengthened by this, therefore it is beneficial to us
personally, and to the advancement of sentient life. Our city is young
yet, we grow in power still, considering the age of many other cities, I
do not believe we are weakened in anyway, and our warriors are some of
the strongest due to regular tests from our foes as they attempt to rush
our very gates.

Advancing sentient life requires a culling of the herd, so to speak.
Those who do not uphold the words bestowed upon us by the Lord Sartan
are weak, and therefore retard that advancement. This can not be
tolerated. For sentient life to advance, the weak can not be permitted
to thrive, else we find ourselves the prey, and not the predators.

I believe a number of those Shallamese and of the church, unconsciously
trumpet a good number of the values of our Lord, and disregard the words
of their own Codex. The Codex states one should protect and defend the
innocent, and goes on to say that this does not mean the innocent are
bereft of sin, however, even the less aggressive and younger of our
people is often struck down just for their citizenship. Are they not
innocent in this regard? I'm interpreting the term loosely, and the
interpretation in the Codex is vague. Furthermore, It also says that if
evil cowers in their city, let them, it is right for evil to cower
before the Church. I do not believe we cower, however, I have no doubt
from previous words that many of you do believe this. Explain to me
then, why our city is regularly invaded and we are assaulted. Why many
of your people enter through our gates, phased, to slaughter our
denizens and our people without cause. I could go on, but I won't. Read
the Codex and think about it, a number of the viewpoints twist back on
one another when given to practical application.

As for being unenemied, I myself have personally sent messages to both
Latus and Carmell. I am a scholar, and do enjoy study of all works,
whether I find them heretical or otherwise. It benefits me to not be
enemied to Shallam at this time. However, I have received no response
from either. My crime was to be involved in a raid against Shallam,
which only occurred because of continued assaults on our city that day.
While I admit I would not have hesitated to do so, I did not have the
opportunity to lay a finger on any citizen of Shallam, and yet my
request is ignored.

Regarding the post that mentioned Paladins and Maldaathi working
together. There was a brief time during the Dun incident when this
occurred. I assure you, our Lord's wrath on the matter was great. It is
intolerable to work with the enemies of Truth, it advances nothing.
There is no middle ground here, no "let's all be friends." Unless, of
course, the church and Shallam concede and recognize Lord Sartan's words
as the only True path.

Lastly, to address an earlier subject involving the traitor Dyzanru. Yes
I was present at his slaying at the trees. I followed my leaders there,
but did not attack him, he was slain rather quickly to be honest, too
fast to give me time to attack whether I would have or not. I remember,
myself, incidents regarding Vigile, where, as he raided our city, I slew
him, I had cause to do so, he unjustly killed me at NoT. However, I was
sniped at Stygian and then killed at the tree. If you are going to make
complaints regarding this, look to yourselves for these actions as well.
I have seen little honour among the Shallamese. This said, I
wholeheartedly agree with the Tyrranus that it was a shameful and
dishonourable act to slay him so many times at the tree. I believe, or
hope, it will not be repeated.

Maybe this is all a repeat to you of previous statements, but perhaps it
will clear some things up. Understand that there is still time for
redemption on your parts. Embrace the Lord, embrace his words.
