Orphans, Shallam, Ashtan, etc, etc

Hi Sapience

Lately I've been answering people's posts in messages, (one of which was
posted on this board) tells, etc. Of course, this only starts more
meaningless arguments on the whole subject.

Please note before you read on that this is my opinion, and while I
write this as a Church member and a Shallamese citizen, I am not
officially representing either.

From what I have seen and heard lately, it appears that at least half of
Ashtan believes the Loving Hearts Orphanage still slaughters children,
and they do not seem ashamed or upset to admit it. (If the Orphanage
does not slaughter children anymore, that's great and I'm very happy)

However, if the orphans are being killed, then it is not a matter of
whether they are Shallam's orphans or Ashtan's orphans. It is that
innocent children are being killed. I am very upset with people who
assume that Shallam's reason to try to stop the orphans from being
killed is because we.....want everyone to be like us, or we just don't
want anyone else to 'get their way'. There are people in the realms who
care about things besides power, reputation, etc. (In the Jaru incident,
there also seemed to be achaeans who felt that Shallam was defending
Jaru for selfish reasons, somehow. In the Moghedu incident, I'm not sure
because I didn't read public posts normally around then )

As to where the orphans come from, where they all stay, etc, etc.
Orphans keep on appearing as long as there are people in the world who
do not care responsibly for their children. Where they all stay....I
would assume that there is a part of the basilica, (which may not be
open to the public) where the orphans sleep, eat, have school, etc. You
can keep on arguing about this for ages, but it is not likely to get
anywhere.

Like I said earlier, I do not think that the majority of Shallam cares
about whether or not the world is like us, I think the thing that
bothers us is the injustice and...evil...of killing innocent children. I
know that this is what upsets me most. If we wanted power, or a fancy
reputation, we could get it. We try to save orphans, we defended Jaru
and tried to help in Moghedu. We do the best we can, we try as hard as
we can. And while at times I have been very disappointed with what
Shallam does, there are times when I have been so proud, and so glad
that I am a member of Shallam, a member of the Church and a member of
the Paladins.

Alright, enough rambling. To clarify, I will do everything within my
power to stop the death of innocent children. I know alot of Shallamese
will stand with me on this. As long as the people who kill orphans and
laugh at it are angry (or amused, or disgusted, blah blah) with Shallam,
I know we are doing at least one thing right.
