freedom

I have been reading all of these articles where everyone is bemoaning
the loss of freedom in the churches and cities with the banning of
gleam. Not one of those articles mention the converse of freedom -
responsibility. In order for freedom to exist, the public as a whole
must act with responsibility. Draconian laws are always put into place
because some idiot decides that he does not need to act with
responsibility when he exercises his freedom. Laws are a standard of
what is acceptable and not acceptable. Notice I do not say right and
wrong because laws have nothing to do with that. That is, laws serve to
set boundary conditions on behavior. I agree with the current ban of the
sale of gleam because it prevents someone from making a profit from the
destruction of other people. Also the current ban on the public use of
gleam is better than the outright ban of it because 1) if one is bound
and determined to be stupid there's nothing you can do about it and 2)
it leaves a person a chance to get help when they come to their senses.
Please remember that freedom as a right is limited by what harm can
occur with that freedom and by the duties that a person has to society
as a whole.

Sincerely,
Woc
