Mhunna,

It is the height of hypocrisy for you to rebuke and refuse slavery to
Lord Sartan and Mhaldor, yet accept it from Shallam. Does your memory of
the Church's history grow distant, or are you too pre-occupied with
digging your tunnels to bother reading a scroll of it? No matter, I will
give you a couple examples of the Church's so-called 'benevolence'.

Firstly, if you recall, the trollish race, fleeing their homeland of
Kasmarkin, were the first to 'join' the Church, or rather they were the
first race conscripted to do the Church's dirty work. A paladin
Guildmaster by the name of Molay recruited these trolls to fight for the
Church's ideals. On the whole, this may not seem so bad, but put
yourself in their shoes. Your home of Moghedu has been destroyed and
your people must flee. You have nowhere to go and no one to take you in.
However, a kind Paladin offers you food and shelter along with a new
home. Though, the cost of this is your precious skills of mining to
further the Church's resources and extend its power. Thus is what
happened to the trolls, they were taken in by the Church and made their
special shock troops to become enslaved to them, no longer of their free
will. I hope you like being someone's lackey, because that's what you've
just become.

Secondly, if you'll recall, or rather try to recall as I'm not sure your
brain has the capacity to remember history, the Archprelate Raphael I,
said to be one of the great Archprelates of all time. By the Church
itself, of course. I'd just call him a skilled manipulator, but I
digress. Anyways, Raphael decided to build the great highways of
Sapience under the guise of a gesture of kindness to travelers. However,
what was really the case was that the Church needed gold from the toll
booths along the highways, and Raphael was able to set up Church
outposts in Ashtan and Shallam, the two great cities of the time. And so
the Church got what it wanted, influence and money. Two mortal sins
there actually, lust for power and greed. But again, I digress.

You may be asking yourself right about now, "What exactly do these two
events have to do with me or my people?" Well, to someone who gets a
headache from the slightest motion of deep though, probably nothing.
But, to those people who can see through the Church's guises, it means
this: You made the Church and Shallam allies to protect against us
Mhaldorians, who want to enslave and rule you, which is our natural
right. As your 'allies', you can expect them to want some form of help
or compensation from you after this is over one way or the other. I hope
you're getting comfy hiding in your giant rat hole, Mhunna. Because
you're never going to be free again...one way, or the other. Enjoy
slavery.
