Nature is a balance.

If your lion goes wild, kills and chases off all his prey,
he then starves to death. Or gets trampled by the
elephant you posited, when he is now hungry and cannot
find anything else..since he cannot eat the plants his prey
lived on.

Cruelty is an application of intellect, not of instinct. As
such, animals are not cruel. People certainly can
be, or attempt to be.

How are you different than the animals? You have a choice
in how you are, and what paths you follow, and how
you affect the lives of others. The lion cannot
choose not to be the lion, the deer to not be the
deer, nor the elephant. They are what they are.

You are what you attempt to make of yourself.
