Events that are open cause

In my attempt to move the public forum away from a conversation that is
even more pointless and boring that the old Chaos vs Church posts that I
remember as a young lad, I'd like to address a subject that I've noticed
has had much debate.
A short while a go, the Divine bestowed upon us a gift of competition,
known as an experience competition. Basically, the whole point was for
everyone to compete and see if they could kill the most dull-normals (my
term for mobiles). This was also an event where you were allowed to slay
your fellow man without being subject to the intervention of the Gods,
and without losing experience for being killed yourself.
Summary at the bottom, this post ended up being more long-winded than
I'd intended.
Now, many debated whether normal organizational rules (city, guild,
affiliations like Fianna, Treehuggers, etc) applied during this event.
Many cited that open Cause and no revenge meant that they did not.
Others felt that the, of course, did.
I have slain citymates in egghunts before being informed that that was
not ok. Fortunately, the citymate I killed, even though he lost exp
because my loyal got the kill, was not a prick. But I have also
undestood that perhaps, events simply mean the divine is not to get
involved, and that that's all it means.
My point is, the Divine don't always lay down the rules. And a previous
post I posted (which was removed for good reason, but still had a few
valid points) also brushed on the topic that always running to the
divine for answers is BORING. They want US to make things happen, and we
should. So unless the divine explicitly say what the rules are during an
event, in regards to mortal rules, organizations need to determine their
own. Open Cause means NOTHING more than it does with the Mark,
inherintly. Of couse, no exp loss and not Cause on your attacker does.
But it is still ambiguous.
I feel that cities, guilds, and organizations should ammend their laws
to include Divine Gifts that do not cover all the rules of mortal-kind.
Instead of arguing the rules after the crime is committed, make the
rules now. Warriors love an excuse to kill, it hones our skill. We look
for excuses that do not make us lose honour or respect, because it is
how we shine. It is also fun, and gets your heart pumping. As a Xoran
that spent most of his youth climbing the sides of mountains, rocks, and
boulders, I love a good rush.
Also, do no deny Hunters and Warriors their sport for the sake of Peace.
Any student of Chaos realizes that without balance of the forces of the
world, Good, Evil, Chaos, Order, the system will fail. Excessive Peace
leads to disOrder, as the warrior base diminish's into nothing and then
some rogue runewarden decides to start using your city for his own
personal hunting ground. Likewise, as your devotion no longer is
necessary to fight Evil because it has also diminished, you start to
bicker with your own people, an suddenly men of great lifetime deeds
become the targets of overzealous glory-hogs who no longer have anything
better to do with the time on their hands.
Summary------
Cities and guilds, please hold referendums on your own rules and laws
regarding OPEN PK events, so that you do not get in the habbit of
enemying people and ejecting people over dumb sh**. Recognize that OPEN
PK doesn't mean a whole lot, but no EXP loss and no Cause for death does
when making your decision.
